Our guest speaker this month will be Edward Lee, an engineer with the Charleston County Facilities Department, who is also a longtime Scanlonville resident. As a community leader Mr. Lee was very instrumental in helping to preserve the Scanlonville Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. He has given his presentation to the Gullah-Geechee Commission, the Charleston Historical Society, Spoleto and many others. Come and learn how to reclaim sacred land and how communities can become involved.
Some of the topics to be discussed:
- Tips on how to preserve cemeteries and burial grounds
- Cemetery ownership issues/concerns
- Cultural burial customs
- Property delineation
“My purpose for holding these quarterly meetings is to share information about County-related issues and to listen to citizens’ concerns,” Johnson said. “Each quarter, different speakers are invited to address topics of interest as expressed by the public.”
Citizens do not need to register in advance for the round table meetings. For more information or to provide ideas for upcoming topics, contact Charleston County Councilmember Anna B. Johnson:
