Charleston County to Launch Online Meeting for Main Road Segment A Improvements

3/23/2020

Project Team to Reveal Recommended Preferred Alternative for Segment A
Project website: https://www.mainroadcorridor.com/

Charleston County’s Public Works Department will launch an online public meeting Tuesday, March 31 at 5 p.m. regarding Main Road Segment A: US 17 and Main Road Intersection & Main Road Improvements from Bees Ferry Road to River/Chisolm Road.

Citizens can find the online meeting at mainroadcorridor.com/segment-a/. Once there, attendees will have the opportunity to review information about the Main Road Corridor: Segment A, look at the recommended preferred alternative, and provide the project team with feedback to help shape the future of the project.

“This online meeting is a great opportunity for our project team to continue to provide information and maintain open dialogue with affected residents, business owners and other key stakeholders in the project area, despite the current situation surrounding COVID-19,” said Sunshine Trakas, the Main Road Corridor project manager. “We place a high value on effective communication with the public about the project, and we’re proud to be in partnership as we look to improve both transit and quality of life on Johns Island.”

Originally scheduled as an in-person meeting, Trakas said that having an online-only meeting is another way to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19, while ensuring that the public still has an opportunity to learn about the latest project updates.

The project team will accept comments until April 30. Citizens can submit comments via the online meeting, or print a copy of the comment form and mail them to Sunshine Trakas, 4045 Bridge View Drive, Suite B309, North Charleston, SC 29405.

Located in one of Charleston County’s fastest-growing areas on and near Johns Island, the Main Road Corridor Project is critical for accommodating increased traffic, reducing congestion, providing safe options for bicyclists and pedestrians, and mitigating flooding issues.

Anyone with questions about the project can call Charleston County’s Public Works Department at (843) 202-613
