County to Host Networking Event for Prime and Subcontractor Business Owners on November 5

Charleston County Contracts and Procurement Department announces its Annual Meet and Greet networking event, “Making Every Connection Count.” It will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.on Thursday, Nov. 5 in the County’s Lonnie Hamilton, III Public Services Building located at 4045 Bridge View Drive in North Charleston, in the 1st floor rotunda.
 
Those attending this event will:
 
  • Meet prime contractors who routinely bid on major Charleston County Government projects.
  • Learn more about performance expectations of subcontractors.
  • Meet and network with other small business owners.
 
This event is being sponsored by the Minority, Woman-owned, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program (MWDBE) and the Small Business Enterprise Program (SBE).

Flooding Update

Charleston County Government’s Emergency Operations Center moved to Operating Condition 5 (OPCON 5) status at 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

Charleston County will continue to help coordinate volunteers and donations through the Citizens Information Line at 843-746-3900. The line will not be staffed, but will provide an opportunity to leave a message and staff will respond in a timely manner.
 
Debris Pick-up
 
Charleston County crews will continue this week with debris removal in the City of Charleston, Isle of Palms, Johns Island and additional areas as needed. The operation includes vegetation and construction and demolition debris. As of 10-15, crews have picked up 62 truckloads of debris, equaling more than 3,200 cubic yards.

  • Do not put debris material in black bags. The items will not be picked up as debris since it cannot be seen and is normally municipal waste.
  • If possible, household hazardous waste should be taken to County Convenience Sites for disposal rather than left at the curb.
  • Please avoid placing debris near utilities along the road.

Library Branches:
 
All library branches are operating on a normal schedule expect the Poe Branch on Sullivan’s Island. Cleanup and repair will continue this week and the branch is expected to reopen Monday, October 19.

​Charleston County Government’s Emergency Operations Center moved to Operational Condition 3 (OPCON 3) status at 2:00 p.m. (10/10/15) Charleston County Emergency Management continues to ask citizens living near the Edisto and Santee rivers to closely monitor river levels.

The Citizen Information Line (843-746-3900) will not be staffed from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. However, citizens can leave a voicemail and their calls will be returned the following day. If you have an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

Road closure information can be found on the S.C. Department of Transportation website http://www.scdot.org/getting/StormResources.aspx or by calling 5-1-1.

Debris Pick-up

Charleston County will begin vegetative debris hauling onMonday October 12, starting with the northern part of Johns Island. An additional pickup date will be scheduled for residents who are unable to get material to the edge of the road byMonday. The County will also contract hauling companies to remove bulk / household items damaged by flooding including furniture, carpeting and other building materials. Hauling for that material will begin in the next few days and information on pickup dates for impacted neighborhoods will be forthcoming. Please see attachment for specifics and how to separate the debris

Damage Assistance

Charleston County has deployed 75 employees during the past week to conduct damage assessments at locations throughout un-incorporated Charleston County and various contract jurisdictions.

Early registration is open for the State of South Carolina for flood damage, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Currently, Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Calhoun, Darlington, Florence, Kershaw and Lee and Williamsburg counties are on the list of eligible counties for federal declaration for Individual Assistance. This list may later include other counties based on damage assessment reports. If your county is on the current list, you may go ahead and complete an application now. Please visit the FEMA website listed below and apply online to start your application.

Library Branches:


The West Ashley and Poe/Sullivan's Island library branches received water damage from the rain and extreme flooding and are closed for cleanup and repair. CCPL's other 14 branches reopened Tuesday, October 6.

WEST ASHLEY BRANCH (South Windermere)

The West Ashley Branch will reopen Monday, October 12 at 10 a.m. If a customer had a hold request and was notified the item was being transferred to the St. Andrews Regional Library http://www.ccpl.org/content.asp?id=14635&action=detail&catID=5374&parentID=5374, those items will remain at St. Andrews for pick up. All other holds for West Ashley will be available at that branch Monday afternoon.

POE/SULLIVAN'S ISLAND BRANCH

Cleanup and repair will continue into early next week, and the branch is expected to reopen Thursday, October 15. In the meantime, hold requests scheduled for pick up at Poe/Sullivan's Island are available at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Library http://www.ccpl.org/content.asp?id=14632&action=detail&catID=5374&parentID=5374.

Programs are cancelled and book drops are locked at both branches while they are closed. Customers can return materials to any of the other CCPL locations http://www.ccpl.org/content.asp?catID=5374.
