Charleston County Councilwoman Anna B. Johnson of District 8 will hold her round table discussion on Wednesday, February 28. The meetings normally are held at 12:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday monthly at the John’s Island Regional Library, located at 3531 Maybank Highway on Johns Island.
Our guest speakers this month will be Gabrielle Mooneyham, Treatment Coordinator for the Elder Abuse Training and Treatment Program at MUSC and Dr. Chanda Brown, Director of the Charleston Center. Ms. Mooneyham’s discussion will be centered on what to do after identifying elder abuse. Many people find it difficult to find and connect with resources in their community to help them deal with the impacts of elder abuse. This informative session will discuss the role of social support in preventing victimization, re-victimization and poly-victimization, and how this social support can be obtained from the community. Dr. Brown will discuss the opioid crisis facing our communities as well as treatment options available to people suffering from addiction.
“My purpose for holding these quarterly meetings is to share information about County-related issues and to listen to citizens’ concerns,” Johnson said. “Each month, different speakers are invited to address topics of interest as expressed by the public.”
At our March 28 meeting, Charleston County Treasurer Mary Tinkler will give you an overview of her department as well as discuss how advanced installment payments can be made on your personal property taxes.
