Charleston County Government will host a public meeting on March 13 to gather public comments and discuss the recommendations moving forward in the Central Park Road and Riverland Drive Intersection Improvements Project. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in County Council Chambers located at 4045 Bridge View Drive in North Charleston.
In October, Charleston County Transportation Development held an open house to display three alternatives for the project. After reviewing a number of factors, including public comments, Charleston County Transportation Development staff has narrowed down the alternatives to move forward with the project. The March 13 public meeting will include a brief presentation with more details on alternative one and three before taking public comments. Alternative one includes adding a traffic light at the intersection of Riverland Drive and Central Park Road. Alternative three includes adding two roundabouts joined together with a grass median instead of a traffic light.

Located in the Town of James Island, the intersection of Central Park Road and Riverland Drive has been identified as a critical road improvement project.Charleston County, the City of Charleston, the Town of James Island, and the SCDOT are working together to improve the intersection. The County is following the federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to study various improvement alternatives that would accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic volumes and ultimately ease traffic congestion and improve all modes of transportation at this busy intersection.
