Open house regarding intersection improvements to be held at James Island Charter High School on October 24

Charleston County Government will host a public open house to introduce and discuss the Central Park Road and Riverland Drive Intersection Improvements Project. The meeting will be held Wednesday, October 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at James Island Charter High School (Cafeteria), located at 1000 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412. It will be an open house format and attendees will have the opportunity to review exhibits and meet one-on-one with Charleston County and project team representatives. This meeting will not be a forum for spoken public comment. Attendees are asked to park in the rear of the building and enter through the glass doors in the back.
Located in the Town of James Island, the intersection of Central Park Road and Riverland Drive has been identified as a critical road improvement project. Charleston County, the City of Charleston, the Town of James Island, and the SCDOT are working together to improve the intersection. The County is following the federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to study various improvement alternatives that would accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic volumes and ultimately ease traffic congestion and improve all modes of transportation at this busy intersection.

For more information on this project, the public can visit our website at https://roads.charlestoncounty.org/projects/james-island. The exhibits presented at the public meeting will be posted on the website as well as a public input form for those unable to attend the meeting.

Anyone with questions about the project can call Charleston County’s Transportation Development Department at (843) 202-6140.
